Engaging resistance begins with restraint. The impulse to intervene immediately upon identifying obstruction often leads to actions that conflict with the system’s timing. Resistance, particularly in its early or transitional forms, may represent a phase of concentration or preparation rather than a condition requiring direct alteration. Acting without regard for this distinction can intensify obstruction, introducing additional variability. Observation must therefore precede action, ensuring that engagement is informed by the pattern and its stage within the cycle.
The principle of proportional response governs all interaction with resistance. The intensity and form of action must correspond to the nature of the obstruction. A localized and stable compression requires a different approach than a fragmented or transitional pattern. Overly forceful intervention can disrupt surrounding processes, while insufficient engagement may allow resistance to persist without progression.
